ODTAW
Support the build

ODTAW is building a network where each community owns the infrastructure it depends on. The design is written and the software is chosen. What it needs now is hardware to prove it on.

The fundraiser will run on GoFundMe. Until it opens, write to odtaw@proton.me and we'll tell you when it does.

What your contribution builds

Three stages, each one useful by itself.
  1. First goal · about $1,500 The proof-of-concept cluster. Three small, low-power computers, a network switch, storage drives and a fourth storage node. Enough to show the whole design working: data that stays home, sync with no coordinator, and a network that survives losing a machine.
  2. $25,000 to $35,000 The first community site. A four-to-five-node cluster powered by solar panels and batteries, with a generator behind them, so the community's services keep running through an outage.
  3. $15,000 to $60,000 A second site, and the first wave. Another community on its own hardware, connected to the first, sharing only what both choose to share.

These are estimates from our build plan and will change as prices do.

Distributed systems, Linux, networking, cryptography, off-grid power. There is real work here and decisions still to be made.
